02 Who a skatepark reaches
More girls skate
than boys.
Skating is the one street-based activity in England where girls take part more than boys. In team sport, boys lead by 23 points.

03 The plan
A new zone beside
the existing park.
The same £250,000 buys almost twice the concrete as a new zone.
Published UK build rates. Estimates until a builder visits the site.
- New concrete costs less per square metre. About £450 to £650, against £900 to £1,670 for joining onto old concrete.
- The old builder has closed. No drawings of the 2010 concrete survive to build onto.
- Local skaters design it. A new zone can be drawn from scratch with the people who use it.
- Coaching comes with it. Separate funds pay for coached sessions. Coached sport has the strongest evidence for cutting crime.

Why £250,000 and no more. FCC only funds projects that cost £250,000 or less in total. Go over, and £75,000 disappears.
